The remaining January Gardening Class schedule is as follows:
Growing Your Own Culinary Herbs
Date: Sunday 1-23-2022
Time: 10 am to 12 pm
Teacher: Angela Reid, Master Gardener Volunteer
Description: How to Grow Culinary Herbs Using Grocery Store Produce
This course will cover cloning Basil, Thyme, Tarragon, Rosemary, Oregano, Mint, Lemon Grass and other herbs from grocery store products.
Course Objectives: You will learn how to select the Herbs to insure successful transplants using optimum soil preferences, pH management, using supplemental lighting techniques and organic pest/fungus management.
Class Activities: Students will explore using recycled materials, spices and household products for successful Kitchen gardening. Learn what secrets professionals use and how to simplify them for your needs.
Please plan to bring a small bag of herbs from the grocery store with you to class.

Introduction into Greenhouse Gardening
Date: Friday 1-28-2022
Time: 2 pm to 3:30 pm
Teacher: Angela Reid, Master Gardener Volunteer
Description: This course will cover the Greenhouse directional placement on your property, insulation factors and cooling for Florida temps, winds and weather. Soil preferences and pH management. Supplemental lighting techniques.
Course Objectives: Learn how it's possible to build your own greenhouse b using free and recycled materials or if a greenhouse kit is the best choice or you. A greenhouse can be small enough to fit in a corner of your garden or large enough for a market gardener. Students should bring a diagram of their property to the class.

Seed Starting
Date: Sunday 1-30-2022
Time: 10 am to 12 pm
Teacher: Angela Reid, Master Gardener Volunteer
Description: Students will learn how to select and start seeds for our planting zone using Organic Seed Starting Mix, Coconut coir or Jiffy Peat Pots. Recycled clear plastic take out boxes as mini greenhouses and soil will be provided. Students will bring their own seeds or they can be purchased from the Cannery.
CLASS ACTIVITIES: Students will learn when seeds can be started and why some seeds will not be successful for our Florida weather. Why you don’t need expensive grow lights because fluorescent lights are better seed starters. How to prepare your garden bed and maintain the proper pH level for growth. Finally learn you are not alone with all the gardening resources available to you.
