September 2021 Canning Classes
The September Class schedule is in!
Sign up as classes fill quickly for some of these. What you get when you pay for a class: 1) Knowledge! You get to learn how to make a new recipe from scratch. You get to learn how to can that recipe. You get to learn how to utilize that canned product into a meal for you and/or your family. 2) You get a snack or meal, depending on what the class is! This is so you can taste what you made and to get one idea of how to use use that jar. 3) You get to meet new people and make new friends! Lots of people have made new and lasting friendships from our classes. 4) By purchasing a class, you are also supporting the Cannery! Every class helps keep our doors open by helping us pay our bills. We are a non-profit Organization and rely on donations, classes, grants, Cannery store purchases and Volunteers to keep us up and running. 5) You get to shop in our Cannery store and check out what local small businesses have to offer while waiting for your jars to process. Every purchase helps a local small business and helps support the Cannery! 6) You always go home with 1 jar of what you made that day, a recipe to make it again on your own and the hands on experience!
Rosy Fruit Cocktail and Cream Cheese Tart Date: September 3, 2021 Time: 11:00 am - 2:00 pm In this class we will combine Fresh Fruits with a simple syrup and can this delicious fruit cocktail using the water bath method. We will also be making individual fruit tarts from scratch using the fruit cocktail. You will go home with a pint jar of Rosy Fruit Cocktail and a mini Fruit Cream Cheese tart! Introduction to Home Canning Date: September 7, 2021 Time: 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm Join us for a two-hour discussion focused on the basics of home canning oriented toward beginners that want to understand the basics of canning before practicing preservation in the kitchen. In this lecture class we will discuss a brief history of home canning, canning tools, sanitization practices, water bath canning, pressure canning, different recipe types, and safe storage practices. The lecture will also focus on the science behind safe canning including pH, the importance of time and temperature, bacterial growth, and why certain food items should not be canned. We will also discuss common canning additives including pectin, citric acid, canning salts, and vinegars. Price: $15 per person This class is limited to a max 12 persons. Classes are non-refundable
Chicken Soup and Noodles Date: September 8, 2021 Time: 5:00 pm - 7:30 pm In this class you will learn how to can chicken soup ingredients. You will also learn how to make noodles from scratch to use with your canned chicken soup! You will go home with 1 pint size jar. Price: $45 per person This class is limited to a max 10 persons. Mixed Veggies Date: September 10, 2021 Time: 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm In this class we will be canning mixed veggies. You will go home with a pint jar. Price: $20 per person This class is limited to a max 10 persons. Classes are non-refundable
Bourbon Chicken Date: September 12, 2021 Time: 12:30 am to 3:00 pm Bourbon Chicken is juicy, tender chicken cut into pieces simmered in a sweet, brown sugar glaze that will melt in your mouth. Rich in flavor and served over rice for a complete meal! In this class you will learn how to prepare and can bourbon chicken. You will go home with one pint size jar. Baked Beans Date: September 15, 2021 Time: 5:00 pm to 7:30 pm Baked Beans You will learn how to prepare and can baked beans. This is a hands-on class. You will go home with a pint jar to enjoy. Price: $30.00 This class is limited to a max of 10 persons. All Classes are non-refundable.
Burrito In A Jar Date: September 21, 2021 Time: 5:00 pm to 7:30 pm In this Class, you will prepare and can Burrito ingredients in the jar. Open and heat, then place in tortilla. Add fresh ingredients such as lettuce, cheese and tomato then roll up and enjoy! You will go home with a pint size jar to enjoy. Price: $40.00 This class is limited to a max 10 persons. Salsa and Tortilla Chips Date: September 24, 2021 Time: 5:00 pm to 7:30 pm In this class, you will learn how to make salsa and tortilla chips. It is a fun class!! You will get to try the salsa and take a jar home to enjoy!!! Price: $25.00 This class is limited to a max of 10 persons. Classes are non-refundable.
Introduction to Fermentation Date: September 25, 2021 Time: 10:00 am to 1:00 pm In this Class, we will discuss fundamentals of fermentation. This class will be part lecture and part hands-on. The lecture part of the class will discuss the differences between aerobic and anaerobic fermentation, the difference between lactic acid, acetic acid and yeast fermentation and the importance of proper sanitation. I will bring examples of fermented projects from my garden and my kombucha. In the second half of the course, we will create a fermented project based off what is available fresh at the market. I will be able to distribute kombucha scoby and starter tea at request based upon the scoby production that I have available. Price: $40.00 This class is limited to a max of 8 persons. Canned Wild Salmon and Salmon Dip Date: September 26, 2021 Time: 1:00 pm to 3:30 pm In this Class, you will learn how to prepare and can wild salmon and make a delicious salmon dip! Sweet Cucumber Relish Date: September 29, 2021 Time: 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm In this class you will learn how to make a sweet cucumber relish. This relish is great for using on hot dogs and sausages, Salmon, deviled eggs and you can add it to tuna, chicken or even ham salad. You will go home with a pint size jar.
